The 400 Years of Inequality project is dedicated to promoting awareness of the somber anniversary of the arrival of African slaves at Jamestown, Va. In addition to citywide commemorations, our local community, including our congregations, will lead remembrances, including a prayer vigil on Oct. 17. We will gather at 7 p.m. in Inwood Hill Park at Isham Street and Seaman Avenue and process to 212th Street and 10th Avenue, the site of a slave burial ground, for prayers and reflections. We will then return to Good Shepherd's San Damiano Retreat Center for refreshments and fellowship. Please join us for this vigil of contrition and hope as we resolve to build a world without domination and exploitation of others.
